Following a highly contested debate between Steve Harvey and Mo’Nique about the way the comedian/actress handled her falling out with Netflix, older footage is starting to circulate around the internet that suggests Harvey might have a different mindset than Mo'Nique altogether. Then again, Harvey is also in the business of comedy, therefore the old footage likely shouldn't be compared to the more serious discussion that took place on his talk show.
All the same, in the footage that's now being looked at in a different context, Steve Harvey is on stage for the Original Kings of Comedy tour, where at one point he talks about Michael Clarke Duncan's role in the 2001 adaptation of Planet of the Apes.
Within the segment, Harvey said that he had invited the actor to his radio show to promote the film, only to be met by criticism by one caller who said: "I don't think black people should put themselves out there like that, we need more positive role models, and you playing a m*****f***** gorilla."
From there, Harvey says that Duncan revealed to him that he received $10 million for the role, to which Harvey replied on stage "$10 million? for $4 million I'll be all the m*****f***** monkey you can stand." At that point, Harvey starts to make monkey sounds while impersonating the animal, saying again for that much money "he'd swing on a vine to work."
Meanwhile, today rapper Mysonne posted an abbreviated clip of the stand-up routine to his Instagram page, along with a caption that read: "Every Comedian Ain't Joking."
