Police Investigating Theory That Jussie Smollett Attack Was Staged

According to local reports in Chicago, police are looking into a theory that Jussie Smollett's recent attack was staged. Chicago police responded to the reports by saying that they are "unconfirmed by case detectives." 

Rob Elgas of ABC Chicago 7 reported that Smollett staged the attack because his character is being written off of Empire, while CBS Chicago's Brad Edwards says that "non-cooperating 2 witnesses are co-conspirators in a potentially staged attack." 

Chicago PD spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi responded to the reports, stating, "Media reports about the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives. Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate."
