While many celebrities didn't hesitate to share their opinion on R. Kelly's alleged abuse, the circumstances around the late icon, Michael Jackson, has appeared to cause some to hesitate on fully condemning the King of Pop while he's not here to defend himself. With that said, one celebrity doesn't seem to be concerned about challenging that status quo, as DL Hughley recently spoke to TMZ to say that we gave the singer a pass for too long because of his talent.
When asked about his thoughts regarding the premiere of Leaving Neverland, Hughley said that it's crazy to hear people say 'let the man rest,' keeping in mind that "he is resting, it's just your idea of him that's not."
From there, he said even if you don't believe that he's guilty of the alleged abuse, it still "says a lot that society let a man hang around young boys like that, something we would never allow somebody else to do absent of that staggering talent he had. It says a lot about a society that was willing to look the other way."
Moments later, Hughley dismissed the criticism that Oprah has received for interviewing MJ's accusers, reminding the public that Oprah herself had been abused of sexual assault, while she also has a responsibility as an investigative journalist.
Ultimately, Hughley believes that people should at least see the documentary before they formulate an educated opinion.
