At the beginning of Tekashi 6ix9ine's career, he sat down with Fat Joe, who warned him about getting in legal trouble in light of his new found fame. Fat Joe used Bobby Shmurda as an example, telling Tekashi, "Bobby Shmurda got Fat Joe'd. These people, these police tried to set me up so many times, my n***a. They did not like who I was, who I stood for," adding, "They wanted to get me like they got [Bobby], but they got him. One million percent they are plotting on you."

While Fat Joe tried to be a friend to Tekashi in the beginning, he recently told Angie Martinez that he would never be around the rapper again after he cooperated with federal investigators in his case.

Around the 19:00 mark, Fat Joe stated, "I thought he was a nice guy, and now he can't be my friend, he can't come around me ever again. Those are rules. He crossed that line [...] I pray for people who cross that line—when they talk to the police and they snitch, I pray for them."

Fat Joe later added, "I'd die before you see me in the picture with Tekashi 6ix9ine."
