History is about to be made between Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels, as it's been reported that the star center fielder is about to sign a 12-year extension worth more than $430 million, a deal that will smash previous records as the largest contract in the history of all sports.

The deal will also keep Trout with the Angels for the remainder of his career, where he's already won two American League MVP awards and finished second four times, en route to becoming known as the greatest player of this generation.

Trout will now receive an average of nearly $36 million a year, which tops Zack Greinke's previous record average of $34.4 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally, the $430 million-plus total is more than 30 percent larger than the $330 million deal Bryce Harper recently signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Based on the numbers, Trout has earned the reputation as being a generational talent, while putting together one of the greatest starts to a career in baseball history. Through 1,065 games, he's hit for .307/.416/.573 with 240 home runs, 648 RBIs, 793 runs and 189 stolen bases, while no player in history has put up more Wins Above Replacement than Trout's 64.3.

With that said, the Angels have only made the playoffs once in Trout's eight seasons with the team, yet after previous long-term contracts with Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton failed to pay off, the Angels decided that losing Trout to free-agency was simply not an option.
