Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki announced on Tuesday (April 9) evening that he is retiring from the NBA after 21 years in the league. The announcement came after the Mavericks' 20-109 win over the Phoenix Suns.
The 40-year-old superstar was emotional as he told the crowd, "As you guys might expect, this is my last home game," adding that it's been an "amazing ride."
Earlier in the night, Dirk was overcome with emotion after the Mavericks paid tribute to his charity work and visiting with sick children in the hospital during the holidays.
