Former NFL and Canadian Football League running back Cierre Wood, 28, appeared in a Las Vegas court along with his girlfriend, 25-year-old Amy Taylor, in the April 9 death of Taylor's 5-year-old daughter, La'Rayah Davis, on Tuesday (April 11).
Bond was denied for both Wood and Taylor, who was visibly upset while standing before Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson. The judge spoke on photos of Davis, which were not made public, stating, "Once you've seen them, you can't ever unsee them." Andress-Tobiasson added that Davis' autopsy showed internal injuries to her lungs and diaphragm, adding that they were "injuries consistent with extreme abuse." She then revealed that the 5-year-old had a lacerated liver, broken ribs and "severe injuries from the child's forehead to the child's about mid-thighs."
When police questioned Wood and Taylor about Davis' death, Taylor told detectives she and Wood were the only two people who could have killed the child, "so it had to be one of us." She also stated that she was grocery shopping when police were called to check on an unresponsive Davis. As for Wood, he told detectives that he disciplined Davis by making her exercise when she misbehaved. He claimed that she fell backward while doing sit-ups and hit her head on the carpeted floor when she became unresponsive.
