Following the untimely death of hip-hop legend Nipsey Hussle, the artist and entrepreneur's mantra of "The Marathon Continues" has been echoed throughout the culture and mainstream alike. For that reason, it's now been reported that the Crips of Los Angeles are attempting to trademark Nipsey's slogan, emphasizing how the financial gain would be used to help the community.
Sure enough, it's been confirmed that the trademark was filed on May 16th with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by Crips LLC, an entity that was reportedly formed in July of 2018. According to the filing, the organization plans to use the income for a number of community efforts, including: "conducting youth sports programs, concert bookings, developing educational manuals for others in the field of community organizing," as well as gang prevention and gang intervention.
The list doesn't stop there, however, as they'll fund further programs that will involve the "direction of making radio or television programs," entertainment services in the nature of "boxing contests and reality shows" along with the "creation, production, distribution, and post-production of documentaries and films."
Furthermore, The Blast has reported that the Crips have also put out a press release announcing a "rebranding of the organizations under the holding companies, and a refocused energy on the communities in South L.A." With that said, at the moment it's unclear on whether Nipsey's family has approved the request for the trademark.
