Nas recently appeared on Drink Champs with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. During the hour-long conversation, Nas touched on a number of topics and retold some interesting stories, but one that stood out, in particular, was his story about trying to get Prince on a feature. Around the 48:55 mark of the episode, Nas recounts how he approached Prince to get on a track. The first thing Prince asked him was whether or not he owned his masters. "I pulled a N.O.R.E. move, I said, 'Yo, look man, let's do this. Let's do this song.' And he was like, 'Do you own your masters?'"
Nas continued, "But he blew my sh*t, because I was like, 'I don't. [...] And I'm far from it, 'cause I owe this label like four, five albums. So I was like, 'Damn.'" But Nas wasn't let down by the interaction. "He dropped a jewel, he kind of helped me see the future and he was like, 'When you own your masters, give me a ring,'"
