The Justice Department, headed by William Barr announced yesterday that federal executions have been reinstated despite pushback from across the political spectrum. The moratorium that was lifted will give way to the first federally sanctioned executions in nearly two decades. Per the direction of Barr, the federal Bureau of Prisons has scheduled the executions of five death row inmates scheduled to begin taking place at the end of the year at USP Terre Haute, a maximum-security prison in Indiana.
The five inmates that are up for execution are Danny Lee, Lezmond Mitchell, Wesley Ira Purkey, Alfred Bourgeois, and Dustin Lee Honken. Each of the five men were convicted of murder with the circumstances of their respective crimes matching one another in their brutality.
