According to reports, Ethiopia planted over 353 million trees in 12 hours.
The massive amount of trees planted was a part of a campaign for reforestation called “Green Legacy.” The campaign was set in place by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. About six hours in, Prime Minister Ahmed tweeted that about 150 million trees were planted as part of the campaign, saying “We’re halfway to our goal.” Once the 12 hours was finished, it was revealed that 353,633,600 trees were planted.
Ahmed went on to reveal that the goal is even more significant for Ethiopia, saying the campaign is looking to plant 4 billion trees between May and October, which is the rainy season.
