Forest Whitaker was tapped to play Harlem crime boss Bumpy Johnson in a 10-episode series titled ‘Godfather of Harlem.’
The series finds Bumpy Johnson returning to his neighborhood after a 10-year prison sentence, only to find out that the neighborhood once under his control is in disarray. As a result, Johnson has to go against the Genovese crime family to get his territory back. During that time, Johnson formed an alliance with Malcolm X during the political figure’s rise. The series is set to premier on September 29, 2019 on EPIX. Watch the trailer above.
