In a bizarre story, a man has filed paperwork with an Iowa court requesting a "trial by combat" to settle a heated custody dispute with his ex-wife. David Ostrom, 40, claims the odd request stems from ongoing frustrations with his ex-wife's attorney. He asked the court to give them 12-weeks of "lead time" to procure the traditional wakizashi swords for their duel.

Ostrom told the court, "To this day, trial by combat has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States," adding that his wife can choose her attorney as a stand-in fighter for her. But Ostrom noted that her attorney Matthew Hudson doesn't have "the guts to do it."
