Gayle King took to Instagram to respond to the backlash she received after her interview with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case while speaking about his legacy. Gayle told viewers that she is "mortified" and "embarrassed" over the clip being taken out of the context by the way that the network decided to edit the video.
She explained, "I’ve been up reading the comments about the interview I did with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant. And I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I’d be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I am embarrassed and I am very angry. Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview, totally taken out of context, and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring."
Gayle added, "I understand why people are upset seeing that clip out of context. I hope they will now watch the entire wide-ranging interview. We asked a longtime friend of Kobe Bryant’s to talk to us about his legacy and their friendship and Lisa Leslie did exactly that."
