According to several reports, Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Island Express, the company that owned the helicopter that Kobe and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna were riding in with 7 others when it crashed in Calabasas last month. Vanessa is also suing the pilot, Ara George Zobayan,
The lawsuit claims that weather wasn't permitting of flying the day of the crash, with low fog and blinding conditions near the crash. The lawsuit also made several claims about Zobayan's errors before taking off, including not monitoring proper weather data before taking off, failing to abort the flight when he realized the weather conditions, failing to maintain control of the helicopter, and not avoiding obstacles in the flight path.
The lawsuit is asking for damages for "pre-impact" terror, along with loss of love, affection, care, society, service, comfort, support, right to support, companionship, solace or moral support and expectations of future support and counseling. The suit also seeks money for loss of financial support and for burial and funeral expenses. The exact amount being sought wasn't revealed, but it could be in the millions.
