Recently, former ‘The Chi’ actor Jason Mitchell was arrested in Mississippi last week on felony weapons and drug charges. Police reportedly pulled Mitchell over and found two pounds of marijuana along with a large amount of ecstasy in the car he was driving in.
Reports surfaced, noting the actor is sticking to his story about his arrest not being his fault. According to Jason Mitchell’s agent—Dr. Glenn Toby, the actor's arrest was a “big misunderstanding.” Toby gave more detail on the situation, saying the Mitchell was riding around town in a friend’s rental car in search of a better lockdown scenario. It was noted Mitchell was en route to his mom’s house with some of his family members when he was pulled over by police. Since the incident, Mitchell has posted bond. Jason Mitchell, known for his roles in Straight Outta Compton and The Chi, was arrested on felony drug and weapons charges in Mississippi on Wednesday (April 22), according to TMZ.
Mitchell is facing two felony charges for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, plus two more felony charges for possession of a weapon by a felon. Police reportedly found two guns, including a Glock 19 pistol and a mini Draco AK47 semi-automatic pistol, along with marijuana and ecstasy inside of Mitchell's vehicle.
A rep for Mitchell told TMZ, "Jason is at home with his family right now, working on an amazing new project. News stories move fast and oftentimes without all of the facts. This misunderstanding will be resolved shortly. We trust that the court systems blind justice will protect Jason's rights and allow him to tell his story." The rep added, "During the Pandemic it's best we focus on the importance of our Nation growing back to our full capacity."
