Just on the heels of being a newly minted billionaire, Kanye West cemented the financial ascendancy with the purchase of his childhood home in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. The property cost Ye $225,000 and WGN reports that Donda West bought the house in the 1980s before selling it in 2004. "It went through a lot of trouble after that," according to real estate reporter Dennis Rodkin. "It's on South Short Drive in the South Shore neighborhood. It went through foreclosure and several years ago a foundation that Kanye was involved with, but Rhymefest — one of Kanye’s collaborators — bought it."
There was a public spat between Kanye and former collaborator Rhymefest after the West's foundation Donda's House bought the property with intentions of turning it into an art incubator for at-risk youth.
Reports say on top of the $225,000 price tag, Kanye will have to add another $60,000 for repairs. But it shouldn't be an issue for him with a reported net worth of $1.3 billion.
