A man was shot on Mother's Day by Las Vegas Police responding to a call about someone brandishing what appeared to be a submachine gun but turned out only to be a BB gun. Police were called to the Siena Suites complex late Sunday after receiving complaints that the man was "intoxicated" and wouldn't turn down his loud music. What's more, the man was pointing the BB gun at other residents.

When police arrived, the 42-year-old Jody Lucas began pointing his weapon at the police helicopter flying overhead. Just before shots rang out one of the officers said, “He just ran down the south stairwell, he’s down the bottom floor of the south stairwell,” while another cop said “Watch your fire, please,” in response. As Lucas walks down the hallway of the Siena Suites with the large weapon, three officers open fire. Lucas managed to make it to the ground floor before he was struck by one of the officers' bullets.

Lucas was rushed to the hospital soon thereafter. While en route to the hospital, officers applied two tourniquets to his wounds. Upon arrival, Lucas was considered to be in critical condition but that didn't absolve him of being charged. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lucas faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon.
