According to reports, the New Orleans Pelicans superstar rookie Zion Williamson is a leading candidate to star in the sequel for the 1998 film He Got Game. “We were trying to get a meeting with him before [the coronavirus pandemic],” said Spike during a Jordan Brand live-stream hosted by Ray Allen and Sage Steele. “Ray Allen and I were trying to get a meeting with him in New Orleans. I’m still for it.”
Spike Lee spoke about the legacy of the hoops classic film and dispelled some of the rumors associated with the sequel. He said that Denzel Washington would not be involved in a potential sequel but said, Rosario Dawson could make an appearance.
It's still unclear what direction Lee is looking to take the sequel. “The story is murky in my mind, but the story is so rich,” he said. He also wanted to make it clear that despite his interest in Zion, the role remains open. “Things happen when they happen and you try not to force it.”
Spike Lee begins discussing Zion Williamson as a potential candidate for the role around the 38:00 mark.
