Icebox Diamonds & Watches and Estate Jewelers in Atlanta, which is popular with celebrities, was looted during protests over the weekend, and one video showed looters taking iced out Rolex watches by the handfuls.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms addressed the looking that took place after hours of mostly peaceful protests of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, telling citizens it was time for Atlanta to go home. She stated, "What I see happening on the streets of Atlanta, is not Atlanta. This is not a protest. This is not in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. This is chaos. A protest has purpose. When Doctor King was assassinated, we didn’t do this to our city. If you care about this city, then go home."
Killer Mike was at the same press conference as the mayor, and he addressed people in the city through tears, stating, "It is your duty not to burn your own house down for anger with an enemy. It is your duty to fortify your own house so that you may be a house of refuge," adding, "We want to see the system that sets up for systemic racism burnt to the ground."
