Leaked audio from the Chicago PD scanner allegedly catches two officers choosing to back off while gang members shot at one another. During the ongoing civil unrest, word came through the scanner around 9:27 PM when cops were told, "There's gangbangers vs. gangbangers. They're shooting across at each other." One officer responded, "Let 'em do it," followed by another saying "Let it be."
The shooting incident was confirmed by another call coming through the scanner soon after. It's not immediately clear if the cops responded to the shooting. After the story broke, Chicago PD officials spoke with TMZ and said, "The Chicago Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct by Department members very seriously." The officials added, "CPD upholds and honors the expectation of Departmental professionalism at all times. CPD has initiated an internal investigation into the audio remarks captured on the alleged CPD radio transmission. The investigation remains ongoing."
