The killing of George Floyd by ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has greatly impacted the world, and now the funeral for the late DJ Screw affiliate is being held in Houston today.
The funeral is taking place two weeks after the death of Floyd, which sparked massive protests and riots and also resulted in the possible disbanding of the Minneapolis Police Department. George Floyd will reportedly be laid to rest next to his mother in a Pearland, Texas cemetery. Houston mayor Sylvester Turner revealed June 9 would be known as “George Perry Floyd, Jr.” Day in Houston. Turner said, “In this city, we will require comprehensive reporting, in this city, you must exhaust all alternatives before shooting, and there will be other things in this executive order. When we invest in communities that have been underserved and under-invested in, then you don't have to spend as much on policing."
News of Floyd’s funeral comes after memorial services were held in Minneapolis and North Carolina this past Thursday and Saturday.
