Nineties rap "phenomenon" Vanilla Ice is scheduled to perform in Austin, TX on Friday despite the surge in coronavirus cases. The venue hosting the "Independence Day Throwback Beach Party," the Emerald Point Bar & Grill can accommodate up to 5,000 people. According to ABC affiliate KVUE, "Gov. Greg Abbott ordered all bars to close and all restaurants to operate at 50% capacity. In addition, Travis County Judge Sam Biscoe signed an order prohibiting outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people."

Vanilla Ice started promoting the show last week on his IG, telling fans to “get ready to go back to The 90s, the greatest decade ever.” In a more recent post promoting the event, the Dallas native wrote "We didn’t have coronavirus, or cell phones, or computers," and called the '90s "the last of the great decades."
