Update 07/30/2020 8:11pm:

In wake of the news that former candidate for the Republican nomination for president, Herman Cain, passed away at 74 due to complications from COVID-19, there are already erroneous conspiracies being peddled. Take, for instance, former Real Housewives of Atlanta star now Republican Congressional candidate Angela Stanton-King, who is now under the impression that only celebrities and Democrats recover from the coronavirus.

In a tweet on Thursday, Stanton King wrote, "All the celebrities and Democrats catch COVID and magically heal. But Herman Cain is dead! I swear I hate it here. I was right there with him. We were perfectly fine!!! This is WAR!!!"

Stanton-King was challenging the now-deceased Rep. John Lewis for the 5th Congressional district seat for the state of Georgia.

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain died at the age of 74 after contracting the coronavirus. Cain, who served as the co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, got the diagnosis less than two weeks after attending Donald Trump's rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 20. Cain tweeted a photo of him sitting with a group of people, none of whom were wearing a mask. On July 1, Cain tweeted that masks were not mandatory for Trump's July 4 celebration at Mount Rushmore, writing, "Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!"

Many health officials called for the Tulsa rally to be canceled, and the head of the Tulsa Health Department later acknowledged that the rally likely led to a surge in cases. Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, also tested positive for coronavirus after the June 20 rally.

Dan Calabrese, the editor of Cain's website, confirmed the news, stating, "Herman Cain – our boss, our friend, like a father to so many of us – has passed away. Herman was 74. Although he was basically pretty healthy in recent years, he was still in a high-risk group because of his history with cancer."
