Famed OJ Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden will be the defense attorney for Corey Walker, one of the defendants in the Pop Smoke case. The news was revealed at a pre-trial hearing on Monday, at Clara Shortridge Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles.
Darden made headlines last year for representing Eric Holder, the man accused of killing Nipsey Hussle. The lawyer eventually pulled out of the case due to death threats against him and his family.
Last month, Walker was one of five males arrested for allegedly carrying out the robbery and murder that resulted in Pop Smoke's death. He and Keandre Rodgers were arrested on suspicion of murder, and Jaquan Murphy was held on suspicion of attempted murder, while it's still unclear if he'll be officially charged. The other two defendants remain unnamed because they are minors, but have been charged with murder and robbery.
Preliminary hearings are set to continue on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.
