A drive-by shooting at the Basham Funeral Care on Thursday left a 28-year-old man dead and many others traumatized by the entire ordeal. Just before noon, Kern County Sheriff's Office received a call about an active shooter after the victim was slain in the funeral home parking lot.

John Basham, owner of the establishment said after the shooting, “The family (we were serving) is traumatized, the people who were here have been traumatized by this and my employees have been traumatized,” adding, “A funeral home or cemetery are kind of sacred grounds and these kinds of things don’t take place there, so it was totally unexpected.”

There are currently no suspects as the assailants fled before deputies arrived on the scene. What is known by authorities is two people fired weapons during Thursday's shooting.
