Nipsey Hussle's estate has launched a lawsuit against Crips LLC over trademark rights to "The Marathon Continues" slogan.
The late rapper's brother Samiel Asghedom, aka Blacc Sam, filed the suit against Crips LLC and claimed the gang attempted to trademark the phrase for various services and clothing only months after Nipsey was fatally shot outside of his shop. Hussle's family has already pointed out that they own "Marathon" trademarks for various services and products, including Nipsey's clothing store.
After an initial standstill with Hussle's family over the trademark, the Crips gave their reasoning behind the attempt to trademark the slogan early in October, stating, "The Crips organization has long used the phrase ‘The Marathon Continues’ as our ideology slogan in the past. Ermias, became a well-known Crip and the phrase became popularized."
Nipsey Hussle's estate is reportedly seeking monetary damages and for any Crips-produced merchandise that uses the "Marathon" trademark to be destroyed.
