Former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia slammed Cam Newton during NBC Sports Bay Area's San Francisco 49ers postgame show on Sunday (October 25). Garcia argued that Cam's flashy style isn't warranted because he's currently not playing well.
Garcia stated, "You get yanked in the second half, there's nothing good going your way. So why are you dressing like that to bring more attention to yourself? I'd be trying to ask the equipment managers: Put me in your jock sock cart and sneak me in the back door and I'll show up on the field and do the best that I can."
When Garcia's co-host pointed to Joe Namath's love of fur coats, he stated, "When you predict you’re going to win a Super Bowl and go out and do it, wear whatever the hell you want. But right now I’m not buying it."
Garcia caught backlash for his comments, with some people on social media accusing him of using coded language. Others posted some of Garcia's past questionable style choices and added that he has no right to criticize Newton's style despite how he's playing.
