California, like many other parts of the United States, is witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases. The state's daily coronavirus numbers have prompting Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a limited stay-at-home order starting on Saturday until December 21.

“The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic, and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm,” Newsom said in a statement on Thursday. “It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before, and we must do it again.”

According to public health data, California reported 11,835 new cases on Wednesday, the most in a single day since July. What's more, Wednesday marked the third straight day California went over the 10,000 daily case threshold.
