It was revealed that legendary hip hop group Salt-N-Pepa had a Lifetime biopic on the way. The pioneering group paved the way for women to excel in rap music, as well as pop music, with their success. However, longtime DJ and important piece to the Salt-N-Pepa legacy—Spinderella, has taken to social media to call out Lifetime’s biopic for leaving her out of the narrative.
Spinderella said she was disappointed that “a decision was made to move forward with a Lifetime biopic that wrongfully excluded me from every aspect of development and production all the while using my image throughout, given that I played an integral role in the group's story and success."
She continued saying her reasoning for speaking up about the slight was due to the fact that “too often, Black women who have made meaningful contributions in their industry are left out of historical narratives.” She then noted that because she felt she was being silenced by another woman, that she wouldn’t be supporting the film.
