A police officer in Tacoma, Washington, is now under investigation after he reportedly was seen driving his vehicle through a crowd, injuring one person in the process, and possibly hitting people along the way.

The Tacoma Police Department released a statement addressing the matter, saying police were responding to an incident that took place at the intersection of South 9th and Pacific Ave this past Saturday night. While on the scene, officers found 100 people blocking the intersection, and they started to clear the path “for the safety of those gathered and people trying to use the street.” Video footage shows the crowd of people surrounding one police car in particular, with the car along with the windows being hit. The squad car tried to back up but could not due to the crowd.

The statement went on to say the officer in question “feared for his safety,” saying he “drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others.” Tacoma PD went on to say the officer called for medical help once he was “at a point of safety.” Watch above.
