The Weeknd has spent $7 million of his own money for his Super Bowl halftime performance, according to his manager, Wassim "Sal" Slaiby.
While all of the usual production costs are being paid for, Slaiby added that The Weeknd spend $7 million to "make this halftime show be what he envisioned." The Weeknd also explained the decision, telling Billboard, "We've been really focusing on dialing in on the fans at home and making performances a cinematic experience, and we want to do that with the Super Bowl."
Earlier this year, The Weeknd released a statement after being chosen for the Super Bowl halftime performance, which reads, "We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year."
