A rep for Dustin Diamond has confirmed that the actor passed away Monday morning. Diamond -- best known as Samuel "Screech" Powers on the classic sitcom, "Saved by the Bell" -- had been battling Stage 4 lunch cancer since announcing his diagnosis almost a month ago.
The actor had completed his first round of chemotherapy shortly after announcing he had lung cancer. However, his condition had been declining since last week and he was taken off of breathing machines in an attempt to get him to hospice care.
In January, Diamond was hospitalized in Florida after feeling pain throughout his body. According to reports, the cancer started somewhere in Dustin's body and metastasized in his lungs. Diamond's girlfriend was by his side when he passed away.
After playing Screech in "Saved by the Bell," he appeared in the show's short-lived spinoff, "Saved by the Bell: The College Years." He also revived the character in "Saved by the Bell: The New Class," but was not cast in the show's reboot last year.
Dustin Diamond also appeared in "The Wonder Years," "Celebrity Boxing 2," and "Celebrity Fit Club."
