Atlanta rapper Silento, known for the hit song "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)," was arrested in DeKalb County for the shooting death of his cousin. The investigation into the death of 34-year-old Frederick Rooks concluded with the 23-year-old's arrest on Monday.
Rooks was found dead on the scene with multiple gunshot wounds when police responded to a call after shots were fired on January 21. Authorities say eight bullet casings were found on the scene.
Early in the investigation, authorities believed Rooks knew one of the residents at the scene on Deep Shoals Circle in the Panthersville area. However, surveillance footage from multiple residents' security cameras showed several cars quickly fleeing the scene and at least one of the gunshots. Upon further investigation, detectives identified Silento, real name Ricky Lamar Hawk, as the one responsible for his cousin's murder.
Silento has found himself in trouble with the law multiple times in recent months. After being arrested twice in one week for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, he was arrested for driving 143 MPH a few months later.
Silento is currently being held without bond as police work to uncover a motive for the murder.
