German prosecutors have confiscated more than 50 million euros ($60 million) worth of bitcoin from a man who was sentenced to more than two years in jail for mining bitcoin. However, the man claims that he doesn't know the password to the digital wallet that it's store on.
Prosecutor Sebastian Murer told Reuters on Friday (February 5), "We asked him but he didn’t say. Perhaps he doesn’t know." The more than 1,700 bitcoin would have been worth a fraction of the current value when the man was sentenced, as the price of bitcoin has surged over the past year. The record high was $42,000 in January, and it was trading at $37,577 on Friday.
