Icy road conditions in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area led to a 100 car pileup, killing at least six and injuring dozens more.
Fort Worth fire spokesman Mike Drivdahl told reporters, "This is a major catastrophe in our city." Drivdahl added that at least 36 people were taken to the hospital for injuries. Authorities also had to use Jaws of Life equipment to free people entrapped in their vehicles.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment when a tractor-trailer slid into traffic at high speeds. It sent several other cars into the air.
Overnight sleet and freezing rain caused hazardous interstate driving conditions during peak morning commute hours.
