Cedrick "Swab" Cotton from the popular 90s R&B group Ideal was stabbed to death in southwest Houston last Tuesday (February 9). He was 46-years-old.
Cotton’s mother, Delores Floyd, confirmed his death, revealing that it happened in broad daylight at the Fondren Food Market, which he frequented often. Floyd told ABC 13 News, "He’d ride his little bike, go there, get a quick cigarette. The next thing I know, I get this call and I heard people… ‘He comes here every day. He doesn’t bother anybody. He’s a good guy."
Cotton formed the R&B group Ideal with his brother Maverick "Mav" Cotton, cousin Wayne "PZ" Perry, and friend Jay "J-Dante" Green. They released their self-titled debut album in 1999, which included popular singles "Get Gone," "Creep Inn," and "Whatever." The group moved from Virgin Records to Universal Records in 2004, where they were working on their sophomore album, From Now On, which was never released.
Ideal released a statement on their Facebook page, which reads, "It is with great sadness that the IDEAL family announces that our brother Cedrick (Swab) Cotton passed away on the morning of February 9, 2021 due to senseless violence in Southwest Houston, TX. This unexpected attack has devastated our family, friends and support system. Cedrick was a loving father, a good brother and an awesome friend...Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers."
The group also revealed that a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs and other expenses related to the incident.
