In this clip, Ernest Lee Thomas opened up about winning over Spike Lee for a role in "Malcolm X." He explained that Spike initially didn't want him for the movie, but his friend, actor Montgomery Roberts, acted as his manager and convinced them to let him meet with Spike Lee for the movie. After dressing for the part, Ernest was asked to read for the part of Sidney, and after several callbacks and an audition with Denzel, he won the role.
