An elderly Asian woman fought back against an attacker in San Francisco on Wednesday, sending him to the hospital.
Xiao Zhen Xie was waiting for a traffic light when a White male allegedly punched her in the left eye. Witnesses and her family say the 76-year-old responded by grabbing a nearby stick and beating her attacker.
The 39-year-old suspect was seen in viral footage being carried out on a stretcher with his face bloodied. The suspect is also being investigated for another assault against an 83-year-old man.
Xiao Zhen Xie's daughter, Dong-Mei Li, says the incident has left her mother "traumatized" and "scared." She added that her mother cannot see anything out of her right eye and is still bleeding as a result of the attack.
A GoFundMe was launched by one of Xiao Zhen Xie's grandchildren, which notes that the cancer survivor now suffers PTSD from the assault. As of writing, the GoFundMe has raised nearly $650,000 with an original goal of $50,000.
The aggravated assault investigation remains ongoing.
