Previously, Nike revealed that they made moves to block a collaboration between Lil Nas X and brand MSCHF for “unauthorized” Air Max 97 Satan Shoes, which reportedly were set to feature a single drop of blood on each pair. Nike reportedly sued MSCHF for their take on the iconic runner in a move to protect their intellectual property. However, it seems Nike has tried to run with the United States Postal Service’s look in a pair of Air Force 1’s that are supposed to be releasing this summer. Because of that, USPS has threatened legal action against the brand.
USPS issued a statement on the matter, saying: “The Nike Air Force 1 USPS” Experimental shoe is neither licensed nor otherwise authorized by the U.S. Postal Service.” USPS then explained how they do not receive any tax dollars for operating and make their money from postage. They also noted they protect their intellectual property.
They continued to say, “This is an unfortunate situation where a large brand such as Nike, which aggressively protects its own intellectual property, has chosen to leverage another brand for its own gain. The Postal Service is disappointed in Nike’s lack of response to repeated attempts to come to a solution. The Postal Service will take whatever actions it deems necessary to protect its valuable IP rights.” Stay tuned for more updates.
