According to reports, a Kansas mother found herself in jail after an April Fools' prank went awry.
Arnthia Willis, 58, allegedly called her daughter on Thursday morning alerting her about a "shooting" that just occurred. Willis's daughter hung up the phone and immediately called the police who quickly responded to the scene. Authorities arrived in full protective gear and surrounded the home.
"Multiple police units, probably between 15-20 officers from the Wichita Police Department as well as fire department and EMS responded to the scene," said Wichita police Lt. Ronald Hunt. After breaking down the door and entering the home, police found no one inside. It was later revealed that the daughter didn't follow up with the authorities after learning that her mother was actually safe at work and it was just a joke.
But that didn't go over well with Witchita police. Willis was subsequently arrested at her job and charged with unlawful request of emergency service assistance “This is a situation that is very dangerous … yes it could be a situation where it could be a (swatting call) but that is going to be up to maybe the district attorney," said Hunt.
