Young Dolph appeared on Gillie Da Kid and Wallo267's "Million Dollaz Worth of Game" podcast, where he opened up on a variety of subjects pertaining to his life and career. During the interview, Dolph spoke on what it take to be a true independent artist.
Wallo brought up the point that more artists are claiming to be independent as a marketing tool. Recognizing that not every artist is truly independent, the co-host asked Dolph to explain how an artist can be real independent.
"You gotta put your money where your mouth is," the rapper responded. "You gotta take them chances, you gotta let ya nuts hang. People don't wanna do that."
When asked how much it takes to work a record and turn it into a hit, Dolph made it clear that the endeavor was very costly.
"It depends...you're gonna have to take anywhere from like a quarter of a million-dollar budget to a million-dollar budget, depending on what you're doing and what you're trying to do with it," Dolph claimed.
The rapper also clarified that the budget is just for one single and not for a full project. He also explained that the budget goes towards various forms of marketing throughout traditional and digital media.
"It's called a machine for a reason," Dolph said. "You got marketing, you got marketing on the streets, you got marketing on the air, on the radio, marketing on the internet...it's a machine. You can't just do this over here and not do this over here. It's a machine."
