Lamar Odom defended himself on Instagram after the mother of two of his children sued him for back child support. The lawsuit accuses Odom of violating their 2015 agreement by discontinuing payments last June, forcing Liza Morales to face eviction from her Manhattan apartment.
The former couple's custody arrangement requires the two-time NBA champion to pay about $6,000 a month in child support, along with college fees, and a premium for a $9 million life insurance plan. Since Odom stopped making payments, Morales is no longer able to pay her $5,125 monthly rent bill and claims she's about $78,000 behind on rent payments.
While Odom's representative responded to the new lawsuit, the retired basketball star issued his own statement and said his children are now adults.
"I have taken care of Liza and my children their entire lives," Odom wrote. "My children are adults. I have paid child support for CHILDREN on time monthly for the past 18 years. My CHILDREN are ADULTS. I am saddened that in the past 15 years that Liza has not taken the initiative to get a job and create a source of income for herself aside from my monthly payment of child support. She is smart, able and capable of working to support the lavish lifestyle she wants to live."
Odom expressed his love for his children and said he will continue to support them and their dreams. However, he claimed Morales was chasing "clout" and prayed that she "finds healing and gets to a place of independence."
Odom made millions during his NBA career, has a large NBA pension, and is due to make more than $40,000 from his upcoming celebrity boxing match against Aaron Carter. Morales is seeking close to $200,000 in "immediate relief."
