The NFT wave has found many people jumping into the new space, including Azealia Banks, who sold her audio-only sex tape for $17,000. The audio was then being sold for cryptocurrency that amounted to the sum of $275 million. Now reports surfaced noting that an iconic image of XXXTentacion will be released as an NFT.
A photo that the late rapper uploaded to his Instagram in 2018, shot by photographer Aimos, is set to be sold via auction on May 25. It was noted the NFT would be released on the Blockparty marketplace.
Aimos spoke on the XXXTentacion portrait, saying, “NFTs are a very exciting new medium for photographers. We now can create additional resources for young photographers and for those who aren’t as well-informed, and moving forward, we’re creating a system to give artists more opportunities.”
He continued saying, “The end goal would be for photographers to be able to handle their business and to not be afraid of the threat of copyright or credit. NFTs solve this issue, and I’m thrilled to start this off by releasing my work on Blockparty.” A part of the proceeds from the XXXTentacion auction will go to a non-profit called #HalfTheStory, which supports the National Domestic Violence hotline and the improvement of younger peoples’ relationship with social media.
