Ex-BLM Leader Says He Quit After Learning the Group's "Ugly Truth"

A founder of a Black Lives Matter chapter in Minnesota spoke out against the organization in a YouTube video titled, "The Truth Revealed about BLM."

Rashad Turner, the president and executive director of Minnesota Parent Union, claimed he quit Black Lives Matter after learning the "ugly truth" regarding the group's priorities. Turner addressed his concerns in a video for TakeCharge Minnesota, a group opposing systemic racism as a cause to the socio-economic issues in the United States.

"I believed the organization stood for exactly what the name implies — Black lives do matter," Turner said. "However, after a year on the inside, I learned they had little concern for rebuilding black families."

Turner's issues with BLM were centered on the group's stance regarding education. He called out the group for denouncing charter schools and the teachers' union. He also claimed BLM did not care about improving the quality of education for young African Americans.

"I was an insider in Black Lives Matter and I learned the ugly truth -- the moratorium on charter schools does not support rebuilding the Black family. But it does create barriers to a better education for Black children," he added. "I resigned from Black Lives Matter after a year and a half. But I didn't quit working to improve Black lives and access to a great education."

Turner's video was posted a day before BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors' resignation last week. Representatives for Black Lives Matter have not commented on Turner's claims.
