Pooh Shiesty's court appearance for his alleged involvement in a Miami shooting left viewers wondering why the rapper was wearing a large vest. A former inmate explained the purpose of the vest in a viral TikTok video.
According to the ex-con, who goes by Berner420 on TikTok, the vest is usually for inmates on suicide watch. The vest is allegedly given to inmates who have threatened to take their own life and is designed so that inmates can't use the best for suicidal purposes.
"In prison, if you're wearing one of these it's because you told the cops it's game over, you're done, you don't wanna be here no more if you catch my drift," he claimed. "They put you on 24-hour surveillance and they make you wear one of these. You cannot rip this up and they do that so that you can't make some crazy thing out of it like a noose. It's also fireproof, which means you can't set it on fire."
He added that it's referred to as a "turtle suit" among inmates and that people who wear them are looked down upon in correctional facilities. He also alluded to inmates faking suicidal thoughts in order to receive protection from correctional officers.
"We as convicts call that thing a turtle suit," he added. "We clown people for being in this turtle suit. Everybody's hard until they have to go to jail and actually do time. Then they wanna pull this card and then really act like they 'bout it, 'bout it."
During his court appearance, Pooh Shiesty was granted a $10,000 bond but was ordered to be held until he spoke with the judge in a separate Miami shooting case. The alleged victim from the King of Diamonds shooting recently recanted his original statement and said he doesn't wish to press charges.
