The show ‘Cops’ was super-polarizing and gave an aggressive look into the dealings of a law enforcement officer. The reality TV show garnered much praise and much backlash for the depiction of cops and criminals alike. Now, news surfaced noting the creator of the show—John Langley, has passed away at the age of 78.
Langley’s ‘Cops’ first aired in 1989 and continued for 32 seasons before being canceled in 2020 shortly after the death of George Floyd and protests that took place as a result of the unarmed Black man’s death at the hands of Minneapolis Police.
Representatives for Langley spoke to Variety and noted he passed away this past Saturday in Baja, Mexico. Langley reportedly passed away from a heart attack. The attack happened while he was involved in an off-road race and was actually competing at the moment on the track. Langley’s son Zak was present with him as well.
