According to reports, the Washington Football Team has been shifting the name and narrative of their brand, with the team reportedly working on putting forth a new name for the team to distance themselves from the “Redskins” name they once proudly sported. This move comes after responses to the team's placeholder name, which LeBron James trolled at one point.

The team noted that a new name and logo would be revealed in early 2022, and the team’s president—Jason Wright, issued a statement on the move.

Wright noted that the team was initially going to go with the name “Warriors” but decided against it after consulting with the Native American community. Wright said “Feedback from across communities we engaged clearly revealed deep-seated discomfort around Warriors, with the clear acknowledgment that it too closely aligns with Native American themes.”

The team president continued saying, “Such an embrace of potentially Native-adjacent iconography and imagery would not represent a clear departure that many communities have so forcefully advocated for us to embrace, and that frankly, we set out to do when we started this process a year ago." It was noted the team’s colors, burgundy and gold, will remain the same.
