Update 07/13/2021 2:46pm:

According to reports, a few of the men involved in the assassination of Haiti President Jovenel Moise previously worked with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as informants.

The attack on the Haitian President went down last week, and it was noted that the suspects captured—James Solages and Joseph Vincent, claim their intention wasn’t to kill Moise. While speaking to a judge, the men said their role was strictly to translate as the group of men arrested the president.

CNN noted that the two men are out of 28 people involved in the matter. While speaking on the matter, the DEA said, “At times, one of the suspects in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise was a confidential source to the DEA.”

The DEA continued on with their statement, saying: “Following the assassination of President Moise, the suspect reached out to his contacts at the DEA. A DEA official assigned to Haiti urged the suspect to surrender to local authorities and, along with a US State Department official, provided information to the Haitian government that assisted in the surrender and arrest of the suspect and one other individual.” The DEA also addressed one of the attackers yelling out DEA, noting none of the men were working for the DEA at all. Update 07/12/2021 4:19pm:

Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a 63-year-old Haitian man and self-described doctor living in Florida, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to assassinate Haitian president Jovenel Moïse in order to take the presidency for himself.

There have been several arrests made and people implicated in the murder of President MoÏse, but the Haitian government publicly named Sanon as the leader in the alleged attempted coup. Haiti’s national police chief, Léon Charles stated that Sanon arrived in Haiti last week via a private plane, and he is alleged to have hired a private Venezuelan security company based in Florida to recruit the people who pulled off the murder.

The Washington Post also pointed to a 2011 video that is titled "Dr. Christian Sanon—Leadership for Haiti," where Sanon Haiti’s condemned leaders as corrupt, stating, "They don't care about the country, they don't care about the people... We can’t take it anymore. We need new leadership that will change the way of life."

Authorities who raided Sanon's home said they found boxes of bullets, shooting targets, and several Dominican Republican license plates in his home. They also found a D.E.A. cap, which some felt was connected to reports that the assassins who killed Moïse falsely identified themselves as Drug Enforcement Administration agents before gaining access to his home and killing him. National police chief Léon Charles also revealed that one of the arrested suspects called Sanon after the murder, and Sanon then allegedly contacted the supposed intellectual masterminds of the plot.

There has been doubt cast on whether Sanon could afford to carry out such an expensive plot, as some of the suspected assailants have claimed they were paid as much as $3,000 a month to take part in the plot. The Miami Herald obtained public records, which show that Sanon claimed he was making $60,000 a year in a 2013 bankruptcy filing. He also claimed he had $400,000 in debt. Other suspected leaders involved have yet to be revealed.
