A 24-year-old Oklahoma man was arrested and charged with rape after bringing his pregnant 12-year-old girlfriend to the hospital for the birth of their child.
The Tulsa Police Department was notified about a potential rape when the girl was brought to the hospital on July 14. When law enforcement arrived at the hospital, Juan Miranda-Jara told them he and the minor had been in a relationship since October 2020.
"They walked in just like any other couple would be excited to deliver their newborn child," said Officer Danny Bean.
Other officers at the scene added that Miranda-Jara didn't seem to believe he was doing anything wrong and openly admitted to being the biological father to the 12-year-old's child. Police say it's unclear how the couple met and why the pregnancy was never reported, but both Miranda-Jara and the 12-year-old made social media posts about the relationship and pregnancy.
Miranda-Jara has been charged with first-degree rape of a minor and is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. He has pleaded not guilty.
